Carpet sea-squirt – Have you seen it?

Carpet sea-squirt (Didemnum vexillum) is an invasive non-native marine animal thought to be originally from Japan. It is now known to be in the UK and can compete with native species for space. This can lead to smothering of shellfish and other immobile species.

Marine Scotland and partners have produced an information sheet to increase knowledge and awareness of D. Vex and what to do if you spot it, to reduce the risk of its spread. Read more about how to spot this damaging invasive species and what to do if you do find it on the information sheet – D. Vex notice
